CCA & SHAPE Awards

In the primary phase, pupils take part in the Cambrian Learning Trust Character and Citizenship Awards, which encourage children to develop positive values, contribute to their community and make the most of the opportunities available to them. In the secondary phase, pupils begin a new stage of this journey through the S.H.A.P.E Award, building on earlier experiences while opening up new opportunities for leadership, service, challenge and personal growth.

We want all pupils to recognise that they can positively influence their own lives and the lives of others around them.

Character and Citizenship Awards (Primary Phase)

The Cambrian Learning Trust Character and Citizenship Awards

We want all pupils to recognise that they can positively influence their own lives and those of others around them. Through our Character and Citizenship Awards, all pupils are encouraged to engage with the full range of opportunities provided by the curriculum and our enrichment offer so that they leave as well-rounded individuals with the confidence, attitudes and values needed for their future roles in society.

These awards have been extensively planned and developed with our primary schools.

These awards have been designed with the following core principles at their heart:

  • All pupils will be involved and supported to succeed
  • The awards will support the personal development of all pupils
  • The awards will be promoted in schools to raise aspiration and recognition of success across the Trust
  • We will work in partnership with like-minded community organisations to make the awards highly prestigious.

S.H.A.P.E Award (Secondary Phase)

The S.H.A.P.E Award has been purposefully designed to build on the strong foundations laid in the primary phase, while also warmly welcoming pupils who join us from other schools and settings. Wherever pupils begin their journey with us, all can participate, succeed and be recognised.

What Is the S.H.A.P.E Award?

Every enrichment activity at SJO is designed around the S.H.A.P.E Framework, which recognises the different ways pupils can grow, contribute and succeed.

S – Service
Contribution, compassion and leadership for others.

H – House
Belonging, teamwork, participation and healthy competition.

A – Academic
Curiosity, challenge, creativity and intellectual growth.

P – Physical
Health, resilience, confidence and wellbeing.

E – Enterprise
Initiative, organisation, responsibility and future readiness.

Across their time at St John’s, pupils will:

  • Take part in a wide range of enrichment opportunities
  • Explore new interests, talents and passions
  • Build a personal profile of experiences and achievements
  • Develop confidence, character and leadership
  • Work towards their S.H.A.P.E Awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum

The S.H.A.P.E Award celebrates the whole child and helps every pupil grow, flourish and fly both in school and beyond.
