At St John’s CE Academy, we believe sport plays an important role in helping pupils grow in confidence, flourish as part of a team and develop habits that last a lifetime. Through fixtures and competitions, pupils have opportunities to represent the school, challenge themselves and experience the pride of being part of something bigger than themselves.
As our school grows, we aspire to provide a broad and inclusive programme of sporting opportunities for all pupils. This will include participation pathways for those who want to enjoy sport recreationally, as well as competitive pathways for pupils who wish to perform and represent the school.
Across the year, pupils may have opportunities to take part in:
We want sport to be for everyone. Some opportunities will be open-entry and designed for broad participation, while others may involve team selection based on readiness, commitment, attendance or the specific demands of the competition. We aim to ensure all pupils have opportunities to be involved over time
Fixtures, competitions and selection information will be shared with pupils and families through our agreed school communication systems. This will include key details such as dates, venues, timings, transport arrangements and any equipment required.
Pupils will be expected to wear the correct PE kit for fixtures and competitions. Where specialist kit or equipment is required, this will be communicated in advance. In some cases, school kit may be provided for team events.
Sport is about more than winning. Through fixtures and competitions, pupils learn resilience, teamwork, leadership, discipline and how to respond positively to both success and setback. These experiences help prepare young people for life in all its fullness, in school and beyond.
