Geography at St. John’s CE Academy

At St. John’s CE Academy, our Geography curriculum is carefully designed to inspire pupils to become curious, informed, and passionate geographers.

We believe Geography plays a vital role in helping children ask and answer meaningful questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Our aim is to cultivate a deep understanding of the planet and each child’s place within it.

Developing Knowledge and Skills

Our Geography curriculum builds on children’s natural curiosity, encouraging them to explore and learn about the world around them. Pupils are explicitly taught geographical knowledge and skills through well-structured lessons and sequences. This approach ensures they understand that they are not just learning facts but are developing as geographers with a meaningful connection to the subject.

As children progress through the curriculum, they gain a deeper appreciation of the planet’s diversity, from its physical processes to the communities that inhabit it. They learn to understand the interconnectedness of these elements and the importance of stewardship in preserving the world for future generations.

Becoming Geographers

At St. John’s, we foster a sense of identity and global responsibility by encouraging children to think critically and explore topics such as:

  • The physical processes shaping the planet, such as weather, landscapes, and ecosystems.
  • The human activities and communities that influence and are influenced by these processes.
  • The impact of human actions on the environment and ways to make sustainable choices.

Guided by our vision to Grow, Flourish, and Fly, Geography at St. John’s CE Academy inspires every child to develop a lifelong appreciation of the world and their role in shaping its future.
