Respect

‘Treat others as you would want them to treat you’ (Matthew 7:12)

Respect is an important core value because it is the foundation stone of relationships within our school and wider community. In our community, we learn that God made us all different and unique. We are all different but we are all special and this is something that we celebrate together.

We learn to value ourselves, each other and the wider community through honesty, tolerance and trust. We are a school where everyone has an equal right to our care, time and attention as a reflection of God’s love.

For our nursery children, this means:

Respecting yourself

  • Exercising and eating a balanced diet
  • Making sure your body gets the rest it needs
  • Saying ‘no’ to things that you don't like and may harm you
  • Being kind to yourself and thinking positively
  • Knowing that you are special and unique

Respecting others

  • Starting to understand that others have different beliefs and opinions
  • Being kind with your words and actions
  • Respecting other’s personal space
  • Thinking carefully about our choice of words and being polite/ having good manners
  • Being able to share and take turns

Respecting the world around us

  • Respecting other living things and their needs
  • Having an appreciation for the natural world
  • Looking after our school environment
  • Looking after our local community

By the end of nursery, our children will be ready to continue to develop their understanding throughout their primary years.
