Our Nursery

We believe that young children are intrinsically capable of amazing things and this is our starting point for all that we do. We know a child’s development at this crucial stage has a fundamental impact on their happiness, future learning and shapes the young person they will become.

Above all, we want our children to feel happy, safe and secure. We treat every child as a unique individual.

Our Rooms

We have three classrooms in our nursery. One room for our Nursery 1 children (2/3 year olds) and two classrooms for our Nursery 2 children (3/4 year olds).

Each child has a ‘base room’ which is the class that they belong to and where their key worker will be based. This allows the adults to get to know each child and plan appropriate provision according to their needs. This also allows our youngest children to have a quieter space to play and explore.

The environment supports children to be fully engaged in purposeful play of their own choice and interest.  Children are encouraged to select and explore different resources which are carefully displayed and accessible.

Promoting a love of language is fundamental to a child's development and so all rooms are rich in language resources and experiences. You will see this in the way we incorporate books in all aspects of provision e.g cookery books in the home corner, construction book in the construction area. We also incorporate singing and rhymes into our daily routines and interactions, to build important language skills and introduce new vocabulary.

Our Outdoor Area

Our outdoor area provides challenging and engaging opportunities for our children to play and investigate in all weathers.  Here they form relationships with others, assess risks for themselves and have the confidence and resilience to attempt challenges.

An inspirational range of play equipment which helps build children’s gross motor skills and physical development to build confidence and self-esteem.  Sharing equipment, and space, and negotiating turn taking are important skills for our children to acquire and helps develop children’s communication.

The outdoor areas provide designated spaces for mud, gravel, sand and water areas as well as natural areas and moveable construction areas.  It is important to us that our children are surrounded by sensory experiences and natural life such as grass, trees and wildlife.  Here they can imagine, plan, think critically, create, construct, balance, develop ideas, work together and solve problems.
